Asking Around
When you stop to think about it, any dog leaving a groomer with their owner is sort of a walking advertisement. If you see pets leaving a groomer and you are impressed with how they look, see if you can talk with the owner to gather their perspective on their experience. Additionally, you can talk with some of your neighbors, friends, coworkers and anyone that you meet at your local dog park or veterinary clinic waiting room about the groomer that they are using to take care of their furry family member.
Make Phone Calls
Once you find some
groomers in your local area
that you are interested in potentially using, make the move to call around so that you can ask some questions. Learn where they went to grooming school, find out who they apprenticed with and ask about any certifications or awards that they have received. At the same time, you can inquire as to the kind of experience that they may have with a particular breed and whether or not they are part of a professional groomer's organization. This can be the perfect way to learn as much as you can about a groomer, while also opening up some dialogue to find out whether or not they are someone that you want to work with.
Be Patient
Most grooming professionals will be on a fairly tight schedule, so you may not be able to get a call back right away when you make your inquiry. By the same token, if you visit in person, they may not be able to drop everything to have a good conversation with you. Give the groomer some time to be able to all you back so that they can take part in a longer conversation. In many instances, a professional groomer will be happy to speak to you so that you can gather a better idea of how they take care of each pet. This will be extremely valuable information that should prove to be very helpful to you in finding the right expert groomer to take on your beloved furry family member.
While looking for a groomer, you will see that these tips will come in very handy. When all is said and done, you will have a well-groomed pet and a great working relationship with the new dog groomer in your life.
